February

People heading back to work and communities after the holiday break. The registration of job seekers for the pre-employment program begins. Complete Personne (CP)l go to the communities every 4-6 weeks and stay in each community for a couple of days. It's pretty difficult to catch up with clients on a regular basis so progress is often slow for people wanting to move into employment. This has been a big motivation for builiding on the partnership between TAFE and CP. The experience of regular online sessions for other courses gives us confidence that service provision and support for job seekers could be facilitated through the project. Eula and Tina put up posters in the community to promote the course.
With the framework of the course designed we're collecting and sharing resources and ideas for the sessions.
Lesley and Janet travel to the Lands and catch up with some of the employers. We're able to take photos of the workplace at Ayers Rock Resort and the HR person there is very enthusiastic and supportive of the program. They're aiming to have 30% indigenous employees there and are keen to have people work there from the nearby communities. There's already several employees from the Lands and it is likely that they can come online and talk to our participants.
Amata wished the learning support worker well in her shift to another community. She has done a great job and will be missed in this project. It is hoped that another learning support worker will be found to support the TAFE lecturer.
The baseline data survey has come through and we have had an online meeting with the team..this is the first time staff from CP have been in an online session room and they seem pretty comfortable with proceedings. TAFE staff are very familiar with the Centra platform and are prepared to have a go at facilitating some of the sessions. This is a different role for them and has its challenges as visiting lecturers always do the delivery in the online session rooms. We're setting up the bones of the Moodle course ready for populating it with content and activities. Everyone's on a learning curve and it's a demanding time of the year so we're hoping things come together. There's a lot of people in the community who don't have employment or feel prepared for work, so a pre-employment program is seen as something that will be useful for people wanting to transition to a vocation.
